Today I have been mostly…

…getting lost! It took me about half an hour to figure out how to get into Gare du Lyon to reserve a seat to Geneva (more on that later) and my pidgin French didn’t speed things up. It also took me a little while to figure out to navigate the labyrinthine metro system.

Nevertheless, I managed to get a few good shots of this building:

That’s Notre Dame de Paris (Our Lady of Paris). Built in 1160, it sits on the island of Ile de la Cité, the site of the original settlement of Paris. The cathedral itself is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. I don’t know much about about architecture, but I know that this is pretty eye-opening:

Inside the cathedral is a treasury containing various relics used in the services.
